Charles Louise Brown, better known as Chuck Brown was from Gaston, North Carolina. He is considered the Godfather of Go-Go Music which is a Washington DC ORIGINAL. Singer and guitarist Chuck Brown performed in front of millions of people over his career. His most popular songs are \”It Don\’t Mean A Thing\” \”Run Joe\” \”I Need Some Money\” \”Block Party\” and \”Chuck Baby\”.

On May 16, 2012 Brown died from multiple organ failure after being hospitalized for nearly a month. The City mourned his death, as they lost one of their true local heroes. Since his death, a memorial has been built, Chuck Brown Day declared (on his birthday). The first annual Chuck Brown Day held at Chuck Brown Memorial park was a huge success and is scheduled to continue.
