Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announces an arrest has been made in reference to a homicide that occurred on Friday, November 22, 2019, in the 4700 block of Benning Road, Southeast.
At approximately 3:11 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.
On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 17 year-old Eric Mercer, of Northwest, DC.
On Saturday, February 8, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 21 year-old Kemonte Martin, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).
This case remains under investigation.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
