Langston Bleu, a D.C native and an upcoming R&B/Pop act, is one artist to watch this year. In addition, his recent single, “Slow Down” he\’s earned an ASCAP Quincy Jones Award. He is on track to setting his own path of success. With Soundcloud naming him “Artist to Watch” this past August, it’s evidently clear that his music is here to stay and steam.
Bleu’s vibrato runs and precise song diction are quite remarkable. As a Duke Ellington School of the Arts graduate, his goals for songwriting rose as he became involved in music composition. He moved to Atlanta after attending Tennessee State University to embark on his dream of recording his own music.
His first single, “Waiting” was released in 2019 and is an up-tempo R&B song detailing the experiences of falling out of love.
“But I can’t keep you/ I can’t keep you waiting,” are some of the lyrics included in the chorus. His vibrato syncs well with a sick Afrobeat inspired sound. It’s an instantly catchy song with relatable lyrical content that will have you pressing the back icon button for more.
In mid 2020, following the release of “Waiting,” Bleu released his most listened to single thus far titled, “You.” It’s a soulful R&B track, showcasing the vulnerability of Bleu through his versatile lyricism.
“Getting lost in your touch/I think I’m falling in deep end/Drowning in your love/You got it all,” are just some of the powerful lyrics sung by Bleu. “I can’t keep my hands off you/I can’t keep my mind off you/ Imma take a chance on you/ But I don’t do romance like you,” he adds. The song feels like a euphoric acid trip thanks to Bleu’s dreamy light tenor vocals. It’s entirely about love and romance, it’s the perfect escape for anyone who wants to zone out and chill.
Bleu’s latest release, “Slow Down” is a more relaxed, smooth track that anyone can do a little head bop and nod while relaxing.
“Slow Down/We been running and suddenly can’t get away/I gotta move ‘for I can’t keep the pace/ Slow down,” he says. As it progresses, he actually slows it down near the bridge and closes the song.
Bleu’s stylings are very reminiscent of Usher and Rihanna, but manages to twist the stylings of Pop and alternative R&B together, crafting his own lane. His eagerness, passion and musical hunger already solidifies him as an upcoming star. His debut EP titled, \”BLEU\” was released February 26 and streaming right now on Spotify and Apple Music.
