There are nine members on the DC State Board of Education who are elected by voters within the District. Board members’ terms are four years and are staggered so no more than five board members are selected in any one election.

Latest SBOE Votes
The State Board is responsible for approving state-level regulations, including state academic standards and District high school graduation requirements. An independent agency, the SBOE advises OSSE on all educational matters.
