Doors to the renowned Howard Theater opened up at 6 o\’clock p.m. for early arrivals, although the 17th annual Birthday Bash would not officially kick-off until 7 o\’clock. By the time The DC Voice had arrived the crowd was in place and rocking out with one of the morning show radio personalities, Joe Clair. Once the host scanned the crowd to find out which age group was getting down at Birthday Bash, from the screams of the crowd, the twenty-five and older crew had taken over.
Then the moment had arrived, which most Birthday Bash participants were anticipating since the Billboard Music Awards had aired, a PRINCE tribute. The tribute was a surprise from the Sounds of the City Band, and most definitely without a doubt everyone in the theater felt that tribute and we were most certain that PRINCE could feel that tribute in another galaxy. The crowd had their purple glow sticks up in the air waving them in sync with the Sounds of the City Band as they blew the ceiling off, not literally, but you know those soulful sounds left the audience stunned and so awe-inspired.
The celebration didn\’t stop there. In fact, we had missed a few performances before our arrival so we had to catch up and get in the groove. Then DC\’s hometown hero Wale made a surprise stop to perform his new hit \”Pretty Young Thing,\” off the record I really like the song. After he left the stage more artists were scheduled to perform. The next artist to hit the stage was Desiigner, and he is most known for his hit song \”Panda,\” and he did bring the Panda out on stage and it\’s safe to say the Panda didn\’t attack anyone in the crowd. After Desiigner left the stage, it was time for the green light special.
Now the next artist that was coming to the stage has that Barry White charisma about him. Ro James is definitely the ladies\’ man. Luckily, one lady from the audience, Joyce had the opportunity to perform alongside Ro James and she did a tremendous job. The excitement and celebration didn\’t end there, in fact one of the participants won $500 from a drawing, how perfect is that for a birthday bash celebration.
The DC Voice really enjoyed our time getting down with WPGC 95.5 at Birthday Bash and will always cherish our memories, moreover we won tickets on the radio last year, but nothing can compare to this year\’s performances and energy which filled the Howard Theater.
