Discussion: The Power of the Neighborhood

Thursday, January 23, 2020

Conversation Includes The Honorable Mayor Muriel Bowser, New York Times Columnist David Brooks, and Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar

(Washington, DC) – Nextdoor, the neighborhood hub, will host a conversation with The Honorable Mayor Bowser, New York Times Columnist David Brooks, and Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar on Friday, January 24 from 2 to 3 pm at The Concorde Room at The Hays-Adams Hotel.

What neighbors around the world continue to show us on Nextdoor is that starting with the simplest act of kindness in our neighborhoods can have profound effects on our lives, and ultimately reinforces what we know to be true: what we have in common is greater than what separates us. The discussion will look at the role neighborhoods play in our daily lives, well-being, and civic engagement. Questions from Nextdoor neighbors will fuel the conversation.

Nextdoor is used by neighbors across Washington D.C. Nextdoor has partnered with over 5,000 public agencies across the country — mayor’s offices, police and fire departments, and offices of emergency management — that are using the platform to connect, share critical information, and engage residents in the civic process.

This week, Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar sent a Note to Neighbors calling on neighbors around the globe to connect in the real world, with Nextdoor sponsoring 12 neighbor gatherings over the course of the year!
