Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in the 1500 block of 45th Street, Northeast.
At approximately 10:00 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an unconscious adult male victim, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Two additional adult victims were located on the scene suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
The decedent has been identified as 40-year-old Corey Wells, of Capital Heights, MD.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
