(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser awarded $3.6 million in funding to DC-based nonprofits that are conducting public health outreach, particularly with vulnerable populations, to support the District’s response to COVID-19.

“These HOPE grants acknowledge and support the critical role community organizations play in ensuring Washingtonians have the information and resources they need to protect themselves and others,” said Mayor Bowser. “I have said many times that we will get through this together, and I am grateful for all the nonprofits that are stepping up to stop the spread of the virus and keep DC residents safe.”

The Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs solicited grant applications from nonprofits that will provide community engagement and education to DC residents in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. Funding for the HOPE Community Grants is provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“We are grateful for our community partners, and we know we cannot act alone during these unprecedented times. Our partnerships are essential in our shared goal of protecting our communities and engaging with our vulnerable populations across all eight wards about COVID-19 related resources, services, and guidelines in order to flatten the curve,” said Lamont Akins, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs.
