Mayor Bowser Weekly Guidance – Monday, November 4 – Sunday, November 10

Departing Friday, November 8 and returning Wednesday, November 13, Mayor Bowser will lead a diplomatic mission to Ethiopia to strengthen the country’s ties with the DC region, which has one of the largest Ethiopian populations outside of Ethiopia. During the mission, the Mayor will renew the District’s sister city agreement with Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; promote DC as a destination for Ethiopian business and leisure visitors; and form new educational partnerships between Ethiopian and DC-based universities.
Prior to leaving for Ethiopia, this week Mayor Bowser will celebrate a number of organizations and people who play a critical role in advancing DC values.
On Monday, Mayor Bowser will provide welcoming remarks at the Department of Corrections’ 2019 Women’s Conference, focused on empowering women housed in the District’s Correctional Treatment Facility.
On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will be honored with the Distinguished Leadership in Affordable Housing Award at DC Habitat for Humanity’s 30th Anniversary Gala.
On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will dedicate the LIZ, Whitman-Walker’s redeveloped and reimagined medical center, which will also include housing, retail, and other mixed-used spaces. Later, Mayor Bowser will provide remarks at the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Luncheon. That evening, the Mayor will host the 34th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, recognizing DC artists, teachers, nonprofit organizations, and patrons of the arts.
On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will attend the funeral of DC Fire and EMS Engine 21 technician Alex Graham, a 17-year servicemember and DC’s 2018 Firefighter of the Year.
