Art unveiling to close out Historic DC Statehood Week
On Friday, September 20, at 12 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will unveil a special work of art highlighting the District’s call for statehood. The artwork was commissioned in August by Mayor Bowser, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) and the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD).
The DC statehood project placed eight different artists with eight different art pieces in each of the participating District Main Street locations during last week’s Art All Night. Thousands of residents helped create the art by leaving notes on what statehood means to them.
