Radio stations are dispersed among Washington DC and the DMV. The station that was the most popular in Ward 5 was WOL 1450 am. Their first air date was 1928 and their format was \”Urban Talk\”. The station was Washington\’s top rated rhythm and blues music station during the 60\’s and 70\’s. Owned by Radio One, they often reported on World and Local news besides playing the most popular music and oldies but goodies. In the 80\’s, due to competition, WOL leaned towards an African-American based talk station.
As of now, WOL 1450 is no longer a Ward 5 resident. The establishment is now a restaurant called TRUORLEANS RESTARANT AND GALLERY. As reported, they are closed and will not reopen.
