Ward 5 Short Term Family Housing Design Overview Meeting

ATTENTION:  WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
Kevin Mullone – Langdon Park Association

Hello Ward 5!

The Mayor’s Office has planned another meeting for April 7, 2016, at 6:30 PM to discuss the WARD 5 Homeless Shelter site plans for the proposed 2266 25th Place NE location.  The meeting will take place at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church located 2914 Bladensburg Road Northeast Washington, DC 20018.   Please register to attend  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ward-5-short-term-family-housing-design-overview-meeting-tickets-24297877606.

WARD 5, we need your support to let the Mayor know that the proposed site at 2266 25th Place NE is NOT appropriate for our homeless children and families.  If you haven’t seen the facility, view it here: http://douglasdevelopment.com/properties/2266-25th-place-ne/.  The proposed site is located on a dead-end street and is sandwiched between the METRO Bus Barn and nightclubs.  To the rear is an active CSX/AMTRAK railroad line and auto spray booths while just a couple feet around the corner is a Waste Management Trash Transfer Station.   Not only is this site a bad idea but what about the Men’s shelter just around the corner on Adam’s Place NE that is next door neighbors with the Waste Management Trash Transfer Station.  What happened to dignified, clean and safe?

The concerns raised by residents was never an issue of NIMBY-ism as many have suggested.  In fact, an overwhelming number of advocacy groups and experts have testified, pleaded, and asked the Mayor and the City Council to find a more suitable WARD 5 site.  The WARD 5 site has even received the most media attention for its location.  Whatever your views are about the Mayor’s Homeward plan, I think we can all agree that the 2266 25th Pl NE location is NOT appropriate for children and families.  Please lend your voices this Thursday, April 7th, 6:30 PM at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church – 2914 Bladensburg Road NE, 20018.  Tell the Mayor’s Office that if this is “Our Government and Our Priorities,” then we can and should do better by our most vulnerable.  SPREAD THE WORD and FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!

As always, please write to our elected officials urging them to find a more suitable WARD 5 Site.
