Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department\’s Sixth District announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault on a Police Officer (Felony) offense that occurred on Friday, January 10, 2020, in the area of Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue, Northeast.
Shortly before 6:00 pm, during a traffic stop in the area of Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue Northeast, a Sixth District MPD officer was struck by the operator of a stolen vehicle not involved in the initial traffic stop. The officer sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
After striking the officer, the stolen vehicle fled and was recovered in close proximity to the scene. One subject was taken into custody by responding officers, while another suspect remains at-large. This case remains under investigation.
On Friday, January 10, 2020, 19 year old Dionte Rogers, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer (Felony), Leaving After Colliding (Personal Injury), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Counterfeit Tags.
