November 7, 2019 | Vol. 5, Issue 45
Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
This week, I am leading a diplomatic and trade mission to Ethiopia. The DC region is home to more than 30,000 Ethiopian immigrants—the largest population of Ethiopia-born people in the United States. Our Ethiopian community is a valued part of our city and has played a critical role in building the diverse, inclusive, and vibrant Washington, DC that we live in today.
Just as I was proud last summer to proclaim July 28, 2018 “Ethiopia Day in DC,” I am now honored to renew our Sister City agreement with Addis Ababa. Our Sister City agreements with capital cities around the world play a key role in breaking down barriers and building international relationships that allow us to improve the lives of people in DC and abroad.
I have said it many times: Working together, cities have the ability to drive great change. For example, with the White House in the process of formally withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, it will be cities across the U.S. that ensure our nation keeps working to build a stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable planet.
As I travel to Ethiopia, I am proud that Washington, DC consistently leads on issues that are important to us here at home and important to our friends and partners around the world.
Sincerely,
\"Muriel
