(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the District of Columbia has received a Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Declaration will provide assistance to the District’s Emergency Response Services and to residents and businesses that have been severely impacted by COVID-19. Through the declaration, Mayor Bowser requested federal emergency assistance for immediate threats to public health and safety, medical care and sheltering, movement of supplies and logistics, and other programs to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Mayor Bowser has declared both a local state of emergency and a public health emergency, and has authorized the activation of the District’s Emergency Operations Center.
