This week, Mayor Bowser will kick off National Crime Prevention Month with a series of public safety events, highlighting programs and investments that are helping to build a Safer, Stronger DC.
On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will provide a public safety update with MPD Chief Peter Newsham.
On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will announce the winner of the 2020 DC Teacher of the Year. Later, the Mayor will meet with Rachel Usdan, chapter leader of Moms Demand Action DC. Finally, the Mayor will attend ANC 2F’s monthly meeting.
On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will highlight the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement’s School-Based Initiative Leadership Academy at Anacostia High School – a partnership that places community outreach specialists at the school to support a cohort of students in need of more intensive mentorship to meet the requirements of high school.
On Friday, Mayor Bowser will highlight the Department of Behavioral Health’s investments to expand school-based mental health services to additional public and public charter schools and to provide 24-hour services to residents experiencing psychiatric emergencies, trauma, or mental health and substance use disorders through new community response teams.
On Saturday, Mayor Bowser will join residents for the District\’s inaugural Open Streets DC along Georgia Avenue, NW.
On Sunday, Mayor Bowser will attend the Capital Area Food Bank’s 40th Anniversary Gala.
