This week, Mayor Bowser will celebrate #DCHousingWeek to highlight her Administration’s investments and initiatives to keep the District affordable and meet her bold goal of creating 36,000 new homes by 2025.
On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will make Washington, DC the first city in the nation to create affordable housing goals by neighborhood. The Mayor’s Housing Equity Report will outline how DC will create 36,000 new homes by 2025, of which 12,000 will be affordable. The Mayor will also release the full Comprehensive Plan, the document that will guide our inclusive growth.
On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will cut the ribbon on the HELP USA Walter Reed Veteran Apartments, delivering 77 apartments for formerly homeless veterans. The Mayor will welcome home the first residents to live on the Parks at Walter Reed, the site of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus. Later, the Mayor will attend ANC 2A’s monthly meeting.
On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will join Catholic Charities for the opening of its 2-megawatt solar array consisting of 5,000-plus panels. Later, the Mayor will break ground on the Grimke Redevelopment project, a revitalization of the historic school into housing, office, arts, and cultural space. The project also includes a new, expanded home for the African American Civil War Memorial Museum.
On Friday, Mayor Bowser will attend the Washington Blade’s 50th Anniversary Gala.
