There\’s a possibility if you live in Washington, DC, or visited, you\’ve traveled down a street called Florida Avenue. In the Northeast quadrant of the city, located in Ward 5 lies 99 acres of rich history and culture, Gallaudet University – where you can also visit the Gallaudet Museum.
Today\’s experience we explore the rich history and culture of Gallaudet University Museum with manager and curator Meredith Perruzi. Mrs. Perruzi is a graduate of Gallaudet University class of 2011.
The Gallaudet Museum promotes and interprets the rich and complex deaf experience. On your visit at the museum, you can learn about the rich history of the university which dates back 150 years. See inspiring exhibit artifacts and gain an understanding of deaf life from cultural, linguistics, and sensory perspectives.
What did I learn from this experience?
I learned that every city has it\’s own uniqueness, but its the people which really make the city come alive and flourish. While at the Gallaudet Museum I learned that deaf people live a life like myself, and the ability to communicate across barriers requires paying attention to the person trying to deliver the message. This was a miraculous experience.
