Traffic Fatality: Northbound 295 Exit Ramp at 11th Street, Southeast

Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a single vehicle that occurred on Monday, December 23, 2019, on the Northbound 295 Exit Ramp at 11th Street, Southeast.
At approximately 11:54 pm, a member of the Prince George’s County Police Department pursued a vehicle into Washington, DC, on I-295 Northbound. The vehicle exited onto the 11th Street, SE, exit ramp at a high rate of speed where the operator lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the north side jersey-barrier. PGPD Officers extricated the driver and attempted life saving measures. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the driver to an area hospital for life threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the operator of the fleeing vehicle was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 36 year-old Danny Leon Washington, of Northeast, DC.
This case remains under investigation.
