Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection to a homicide that occurred on Sunday, January 5, 2020, in the 1400 block of 3rd Street, Southwest.
At approximately 5:27 am, members of the First District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male inside of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Investigation at the scene suggested the shooting occurred inside of the residence.
The decedent has been identified as 26 year-old Xavier Tate, of Northeast, DC.
The suspect in this case has been identified as 27 year old Bratrell Hawkins, of Southwest, DC. He is currently wanted on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Second Degree Murder while Armed. Hawkins should be considered armed and dangerous and can be seen in the photo below:
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.
