Beyond the Tidal Basin: The Best Cherry Blossom Events for Locals

Few times bring larger crowds to Washington than Cherry Blossom season. For locals, Cherry Blossom season is a hectic time, and localized community celebration feels distant from the crowds of I “heart” DC shirts, cherry blossom bucket hats and couples trying to get the perfect selfie with blossoms in the background.

At the March meeting of ANC 2B, commissioners announced the Dupont Cherry Blossom Celebration, a day to create a localized celebration of the season. The Dupont Cherry Blossom Celebration will take place March 30 from 10 am until 5 pm, kicking off with a Blossom Brunch at the Lyle Hotel and surrounding establishments.

The Dupont Cherry Blossom Pop Up Market will highlight local artisans on Connecticut Avenue and P Street. Local tea shops will also be present for an afternoon tea in the park.

A Kimono workshop will take place at Dupont Underground with garment and kimono expert Tomomi Miyajima. Miyajima will present Japanese methods of kimono dressing on live models, giving guests the opportunity to experience traditional garments up close.

The Dupont neighborhood is not the only place in DC where residents can enjoy and celebrate the season, other festivals, events and programming are taking place across the city for residents looking for DC community during such a busy time for tourism.
