Jason E. Burkett – Candidate ANC 5D06 Commissioner

Jason is a stand-out leader, both a 10 yr Navy veteran and businessman. He grew up in the suburbs of the Washington metropolitan area and settled down in Northeast Washington, DC with his husband in 2016.

Jason’s Navy experiences span from managing a ship engineering plant, to leading a bomb squad in the Middle East, to serving as a 3-Star Admiral’s aide at NATO.  After leaving the Navy, Jason joined a top management consulting firm and was assigned to several business transactions involving the world’s top technology companies. Upon returning to DC, Jason has shifted his career back to government as a senior operations contractor. Each unique assignment has strengthened his ability to solve complex problems.

Jason is running for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner 5D06. After first-hand witnessing murder, sexual assault and theft in the Trinidad neighborhood steps from his door, Jason is passionate about taking a more proactive role in the community. He is confident that his professional experiences as a leader will contribute greatly to the commission.

Jason’s top 3 initiatives are:

  • Improve neighborhood safety in close partnership with Washington Metropolitan Police Department and other city agencies
  • Create a sense of a community within the diverse neighborhood of Trinidad and increase residential participation in local governance
  • Influence the ANC5D Commission to take a more collaborative and disciplined approach to moving community initiatives forward

Jason knows that this is a community effort and is ready to listen, understand and collaborate with willing residents to continue community improvement.

Jason has earned a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
