Bedazzled garments shining like diamonds under flashing lights, animal prints and funky patterns, elegant gowns draped across bodies—the grand finale of DC Fashion Week showcased a vibrant display of looks and pieces embodying Couture Fashion this past Sunday at the National Housing Center. The last night of Fashion Week went out with a bang as models strutted down the runway in collections made from established and up and coming designers from the DMV and beyond.
A Go-Go Opening
The show opened in classic D.C. fashion as models emerged from the curtains, walking in sync to the groovy drums of Gogo music. Many garments included black, form fitting pieces that subtly revealed parts of the body.
A bold intro signaling the commencement of the final night of Fashion Week.
Designed by Fatima
The first collection of the night was brought to you by Designed by Fatima. A DMV based designer who’s been hand sewing and selecting garments for forty years. Many of her outfits included silk fabrics, colorful patterns, and loose garbs hanging freely against the models. Her craft and attention to detail was evident in the execution of each piece.

Ruslanova Aiymm
The next designer is an artist from the Central Asia country, Kyrgyzstan, Ruslanova Aiymm. Her pieces captivated the audience as models regally emerged from the curtain. Fabrics draped elegantly off of bodies, detailed embroidery stretched down pieces, bold hats demanded attention. These elements created a collection reflecting the colors and beauty of her culture. Aiymm spent her formative years in Kyrgyzstan and her brand is based in Chicago.
Shelina Forsee Couture & Agape Kids Couture
The DMV brand, Shelina Forsee Couture and Agape Kids Couture by Shelina Glenn, divided the runway into adult and child’s wear. The brand, which started in a Maryland boutique, showcased a series of ruffled gowns and dresses that transported the audience right into a ballroom. A number of the adult pieces were form fitting, produced from materials like lace and sheer.

“Fashion is nature”
he says, concluding his set.
Ean Williams: The Grand Finale
Ean Williams’ closed the event, showcasing the Spring/Summer collection for Corjore International.
The crowd grew silent, as the backdrop dispersed into clouds of blue. Models emerged from the curtain like waves crashing against the shore. Arrays of blue, sparkling gems, surreal headwear, walking like they came straight out of the ocean. A deep blue collection of pieces creating an underwater atmosphere where each model channeled their inner siren.
The nation’s capital clearly has its finger on the pulse of fashion, as they showed up and showed out for the 45th annual year of D.C. Fashion week.
